 Reading Fightin Phils

Vote for the 28 Greatest Reading Fightin Phils Alumni

March 7, 2013 - Eastern League (EL1)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Since 1967, Reading, Pa. has been home to a cavalcade of baseball legends and historical moments. All-stars like Mike Schmidt, Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels, and Ryne Sandberg made a name for themselves in Reading before finding major league stardom. Other names like David Doster, Michael Spidale, and Gary Burnham have carved out seasons that no other players in Baseballtown have been able to match.

To celebrate the longest affiliation in all of Minor League Baseball, developing Philadelphia Phillies prospects since 1967, the Reading Fightin Phils re-imagined its third base picnic area as the Fairgrounds Square Mall "˜67 Club Picnic Area. This premiere area will pay tribute to the club's long-standing relationship with the Phillies by naming each table after one of the greats to come through the gates of America's Classic Ballpark over the team's 47-year history.

From March 7 until March 21, Fightin Phils fans will be able to vote for the 28 Reading alumni to be honored in the "˜67 Club Picnic Area by picking 28 of their favorite players from a list of over 60 former Baseballtown legends.

In order to participate in the contest, fans must sign up for the Baseballtown Insider newsletter, where they will receive breaking news about the franchise, special offers on tickets and merchandise, and more. Those interested in signing up for the Baseballtown Insider can sign up HERE.

One lucky fan, drawn at random from any fan that votes for the "˜67 Club players, will receive a Fightin Phils "˜67 Club Grand Prize, which includes:

- 10-person picnic in the "˜67 Club Picnic Area / VIP On-Field Warning Track Cocktail Party Opening Night, April 12. All-you-can-eat buffet and open bar ($500 value)

- Ceremonial First Pitch on Opening Night

- Fightin Phils Merchandise Gift Pack

To officially celebrate the re-imagined Fairgrounds Square Mall "˜67 Club Picnic Area, any group that books an outing in the "˜67 Club Picnic Area on or before March 21 will receive the unique opportunity of meeting a Fightin Phils player. The Fightin Phils player will visit exclusively with your group at your tables in the "˜67 Club. The player will also be photographed alongside the group, which will then be printed and autographed on an 8"x10" glossy photo. With a roster full of some of the top prospects in the Philadelphia system, groups will be able to meet some potential major league stars just for booking by March 21.

Contact Matt Hoffmaster at 610-375-8469 ext. 243 in the Fightin Phils group office on or before March 21 to take advantage of this free player visit to your tables!

The Fightin Phils will kick off their home schedule on Friday, April 12 at FirstEnergy Stadium when the team takes on the Erie SeaWolves. Savage 61 Fightins VIP Club plans, group tickets, and single game tickets for 2013 can be purchased online at Fightins.com, by phone at 610-370-BALL, or by visiting the FirstEnergy Stadium Ticket Office.
