Milwaukee Wave News Release

MILWAUKEE (May 21, 2008) -- Milwaukee Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg has been chosen for the 12-man United States roster for the CONCACAF Futsal Championships, June 3-8 in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Wave Head Coach and Vice President of Soccer Operations Keith Tozer is the head coach of the national team, which will try to secure one of three spots from the region for the 2008 FIFA World Cup, Sept. 30-Oct. 19 in Brazil. "I'm extremely proud of Nick to be named to the 2008 CONCACAF team," Tozer said. "It's a wonderful opportunity for him, and with Nick and Jeff Richey, I think we have a formidable goalkeeping tandem." The U.S. finished seventh at the worlds in Chinese Taipei in 2004 after capturing the CONCACAF gold medal. Last summer, Tozer led the U.S. team to a fifth-place finish at the Pan American Games in Brazil. Vorberg also was a member of that team. "This is a lot different team than in the past," Vorberg said. "It's young, fast, skilled. They're still learning the game, but I think the games we played in Brazil prepared us well for the teams we'll play in the CONCACAF." Tozer took 14 players to Brazil last month for three exhibition games against club teams. The U.S. won one game and was competitive in all three. Eleven of the 12 players chosen are active in the Major Indoor Soccer League. Four players from the Chicago Storm and three from the Philadelphia KiXX lead the group. MISL champion Baltimore placed veteran Denison Cabral on the squad. The U.S. faces Haiti, Panama and Costa Rica in Group B of the CONCACAF tournament. Semifinals are June 7 and the championship and third-place matches are June 8. "We're all excited about defending our championship and qualifying for the 2008 World Cup," Tozer said.
