VooDoo QB Andy Kelly named AFL Offensive Player of the Week for second straight week

New Orleans VooDoo QB Andy Kelly's standout performance in the team's 62-61 victory over the San Jose SaberCats last Sunday earned him Arena Football League Offensive Player of the Week honors for Week 3 - the second consecutive week he has been honored by the league.

Kelly completed 33-of-47 passes for 340 yards with a New Orleans franchise-record eight touchdown passes as he engineered the VooDoo to victory over the defending ArenaBowl champions. Kelly hit OS Aaron Bailey with a 21-yard scoring strike with 26 seconds remaining to give the VooDoo the victory.

"Andy has done an outstanding job of running our offense and leading our team so far this season," said VooDoo coach Mike Neu. "His performance this week was no different. Andy's confidence and leadership in the huddle has played a very important role in our offensive improvement this season."

Kelly has played an important role for the VooDoo offense, which currently boasts the Arena Football League's top-ranked passing attack. Kelly has completed 95-of-131 passes for 973 yards with 20 touchdown passes and one interception. Kelly is currently ranked first in the AFL in passer rating (128.5) and passing yardage and tied for first in touchdown passes with Tony Graziani of the Philadelphia Soul, this Sunday's opponent.

One of the Arena Football League's all-time leading quarterbacks, Kelly currently holds the AFL career passing records for completions (2,958), attempts (4,802) and passing yards (33,006) and is second all-time with 640 touchdown passes, trailing Aaron Garcia of the New York Dragons who currently has 642. Kelly has started 122 consecutive games, the all-time record for consecutive starts by a quarterback. Kelly has been selected as the AFL Offensive Player of the Week 10 times during his 12-year career with five different clubs, including the VooDoo.

The 2004 Southern Division champion VooDoo are back in action this Sunday when they face the Philadelphia Soul at the New Orleans Arena. The game will be broadcast live on NBC (WDSU TV-6 in the New Orleans area) at 11 am CT and can also be heard on WSMB 1350-AM. The regular season home schedule includes games remaining against: Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, Orlando, Georgia, Columbus, Colorado and Austin.
