Hill City Howlers News Release

Edinson Volquez threw three scoreless innings in his first rehab start, and Jordan Hotchkiss sealed the deal in Lynchburg's 6-0 victory. Hillcats pitchers have now thrown 21 consecutive scoreless innings including two shutouts in this series.

Lynchburg struck for one run in the fourth frame. Alex Buchholz doubled, and was driven in with a two-out single by Jose Gualdron.

One inning later, the Hillcats put up a three-spot, all with two outs. Cody Puckett started the rally with a walk. Carlos Mendez hit his first triple of the season, driving in Puckett. Buchholz drove in Mendez with a single, and scored on a Neftali Soto double. Overall, four straight Hillcats reached with two outs, the first three scored to make it a 4-0 advantage.

Soto struck for two more for the home team in the seventh inning. Again with two outs, Soto belted a home run off the video board in right field. It was a two-run homer, with Puckett on first.

In his first start since June 2009, Volquez was solid. The 2008 National League All-Star threw three scoreless innings in his first rehab appearance. The first two hitters he faced reached on singles, but after that he didn't allow a hit and struck out three. Jordan Hotchkiss relieved Volquez and got credit for the win. He threw five innings and struck out eight. He moves to 4-0 on the season.

Lynchburg and Potomac conclude their four-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2:05. Curtis Partch (2-4, 3.83) starts for Lynchburg opposite Jesse Estrada (1-1, 4.14) for Potomac.
