Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, Calif. - With 48% of the total weighted vote between fans, media and league officials, Monterey Bay F.C. forward Christian Volesky has been named the USL Championship's Player of the Month for April, the first such honor for a Monterey Bay F.C. player in the Club's short history. Sacramento Republic FC's Russell Cicerone came in second with 26% of the vote, while Oakland's Paul Blanchette and Birmingham's Enzo Martinez received 11% and 10% respectively.
Monterey Bay earned positive results in six consecutive matches to end the month and finished with a total of 13 goals scored in April, a number in which Volesky's form played a large part. The Henderson, Nevada native contributed to eight (five goals, three assists) of those 13 total goals for the Crisp and Kelp, including five contributions (three goals, two assists) among the nine total goals scored by the Club in league play.
Volesky's performance throughout the month also earned him two Player of the Week honors in Week 5 and Week 7 following wins over New Mexico United and Indy Eleven. At home against New Mexico on April 8, Volesky scored the game-winning goal among three total contributions on the night. On the road against Indy Eleven two weeks later, Volesky scored the equalizing goal before bagging the game-winning assist five minutes later.
Overall, with his award-winning display in April, the USL Championship journeyman upped his career total to 55 goals and 13 assists by month's end. Volesky is not showing any signs of slowing down, however, as he has since extended those totals to 56 and 14 with yet another multi-goal contribution performance in the Club's first match of the new month on May 5.
"Winning Player of the Month is great. It's great for the club and it's really a good testament to the group we have and the success that we've had here collectively," said Volesky. "I'm looking forward to more success for the Club this month."
