Wenatchee Wild News Release
TOPEKA, Kan. - Wenatchee Wild forward Kyle Vogel (Richland, Wash.) returned to the lineup Friday after missing nearly three weeks of action. Vogel would go on to score his first goal of the season, but it wasn't enough for the Wild, who suffered a 2-1 loss to the Topeka RoadRunners at the Kansas ExpoCentre in Topeka, Kan.
Topeka scored the first goal 4:14 into the first period when Ryan White redirected a shot into the cage. Jake Lynes and Kyle Sharkey assisted.
Vogel's first goal of the 2011-12 campaign, scored near the midpoint of the second frame, came on a backhander in the slot after he picked up a loose puck. Parker Johnson (Bloomington, Ill.) and Michael Lant (Suwanee, Ga.) assisted.
Dan Dupell scored what would go as the game-winner less than four minutes after Vogel forced a tie when he banged the puck past netminder Greg Lewis (Mars, Pa.) from the far side of the cage. White and Lynes assisted.
The Wild (13-9-4) threw 14 shots at goaltender Peter Traber in the third period, but he was up to the task. Traber stopped Ben Carey's (Centennial, Colo.) short-handed wrist shot 2:30 into the third period and made a pair of saves on Shawn Pauly (Bellingham, Wash.) from the near side of the ice on separate shifts.
Traber's best saves, perhaps, came on a sequence of chances for the Wild with a little under six minutes remaining in regulation. Traber stopped Max McHugh's (Edgewood, Wash.) whistling wrister from the near circle, then made two more saves on rebounds, the second of which nearly trickled into the net behind him for the equalizer.
White (1G, 1A) and Lynes (2A) each recorded two points for the RoadRunners. In all, Traber made 30 saves on 31 shots.
Lewis stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced. Neither team registered a power-play goal. Wenatchee went 0-for-4 on the man-advantage while Topeka went 0-for-2.
The Wild will try to force a split in the series against the RoadRunners (19-10-2) Saturday. The game, which is slated to begin at 5:05 p.m. (PST), will be broadcast live on 560 AM KPQ. Additionally, all of the Wild's games can be viewed online at www.FASTHockey.com.
