
Vipers Welcome Jose and Fleury

The Calgary Vipers welcomed former major leaguer Felix Jose to Foothills Stadium today at an informal media conference. Jose has 747 games played under his belt at the Major League level and in that time gathered 708 hits, belted 54 homeruns and picked up 324 runs batted in. He last played in the Majors in 2003 where he hit .333.
Former Calgary Flames star Theoren Fleury was also in attendance and took part in a full workout including batting and fielding practice. Contract negotiations continue with Fleury's agent concerning his game appearance with the team at some point this season. The former Flame will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on opening night and will sign autographs throughout the game.
The Vipers also unveiled the 10 Prairie Sticks bats, maple, double-dipped, black that they received in the trade for John Odom last week.
Finally the new Technovision ViperVision screen was installed and operational for all to see.
The Vipers open their home schedule next Thursday night at 7:00 PM (MDT) on "Theoren Fleury Night" against the Edmonton Cracker-Cats. Calgary ace Evan Greusel (0-0) is expected to get the start. Friday the two teams will once again play at 7:00 PM (MDT) with Nate Melek (0-0) starting.
On Saturday, May 31 the Vipers will welcome Chris Reitsma to Foothills Stadium for a 5:00 PM (MDT) double-header against their Alberta rivals. The ex-major leaguer will also sign autographs and meet with fans. Jordy Alexander (0-1) and Reggie Rivard (0-0) are expected to start the double dip games. Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM (MDT) the five game series will wrap up with Dallas Mahan (0-0) toeing the rubber for the Vipers. Tickets can be ordered by calling 277-BALL (2255).
