Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

DANBURY, CT - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), appeared to be on their way to losing their eighth straight as they quickly fell behind the Trashers 3-0. The feisty Vipers, however, had other plans, scoring three third-period goals, and quickly putting away the shootout win to take their first victory in eight games by a final score of 4-3.

Jeff Daw got the Trashers on the board with just a minute and four seconds remaining in the first period giving Danbury the advantage to start the second period. The Trashers added two more on the Vipers in the second on goals from David Hymovitz and Drew Omicioli, as Danbury goaltender Sylvain Daigle continued to stop Vipers shots.

The Vipers took the ice in the third period looking to erase Daigle's shutout and lessen the gap between themselves and the Trashers. David Beauregard broke the ice for Roanoke, scoring at the 1:42 mark off a pass from L.P. Martin. The Vipers offense was energized by it's captain's goal, as Josh Tataryn would score at the 10:07 mark to pull the Vipers within one. With time running off the scoreboard, Jan Jas tied the game in heroic fashion with just a minute and 48 seconds on the clock. Both goaltenders would hang on through the final moments, forcing the Vipers' eighth shootout of the season.

Gray Shaneberger gave the Vipers the advantage early with a goal off Daigle in round two of the shootout. The Trashers evened the score in the third round, as Jamie Thompson beat Jamie Hodson. Shootout specialist Josh Tataryn would come through for the Vipers in round five, giving them the shootout lead once more. Hodson made a big save in the Trashers' half of the final round, blocking a shot from Drew Omicioli as the Vipers broke their losing slide with a huge win over the second place Danbury Trashers.
