Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
The Vipers gave up an eight point fourth quarter lead and we outscored 27-20 in the final frame as they lost their eighth straight game 105-99 to the Utah Flash Sunday afternoon at Dodge Arena. The loss is the Vipers fourth straight defeat on their home floor. The Vipers haven't been on the winning side of the box score at Dodge Arena since December 14th.
The Vipers trailed by double figures in the second quarter but pulled ahead and led the Flash at halftime 60-57. The Vipers led for the majority of the second half until McAllen native Kevin Kruger lit up the Vipers from the outside with three, fourth quarter three pointers including one at the 1:23 mark to give the Flash the lead 95-94; a lead Utah would not relinquish. Kruger, who had not been back to the Valley since he was two years old, scored 24 to lead the way for Utah.
Rio Grande Valley suffered a foul out and two ejections in the game. Trent Strickland picked up his sixth foul at the 5:45 mark. Desmon Farmer was ejected after a rough intentional foul on Andre Ingram, and Quannas White was ejected with 10.5 remaining for arguing with the officials.
Farmer led five Vipers in double-figures with 23 points. Jesse Smith added his seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. White had a season high 18 points and six assists for RGV in the loss.
Rio Grande Valley will continue their five-game home stand on Friday night as they face Southwest Division rival Austin for a 7:00 pm. It will be the Vipers third home game versus the Toros this season and fifth match-up overall.
