Hidalgo, Texas, - The NBA G League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers, affiliate of the Houston Rockets, rolled through Memphis Hustle 157-134.
Demetrius Jackson was the leading scorer in the game with 26 points. Three players for the RGV finished with double-doubles. Isaiah Hartenstein collected 20 points and 11 rebounds while Tyler Lydon had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Monte Morris finished the night with 19 points and 13 assists . Jordon Crawford led Memphis with 24 points.
After scoring the first bucket in the game, the Vipers held the lead for the rest of the game. Isaiah Hartenstein led the Vipers in the first quarter with seven points. The Vipers headed into the second quarter with a 33-27 lead.
The Vipers were running on all cylinders in the second quarter. The 50 points Rio Grande Valley scored in the second quarter were the most points scored in franchise history for a single quarter. Isaiah Hartenstein and Demetrius Jackson helped with 10 points each in the second quarter.
Rio Grande Valley kept scoring in the second half, scoring 37 points in the following two quarters. Memphis Hustle made a run in the third quarter, cutting down the lead to just 11 points at one point. RJ Hunter's 12 points helped the Vipers extended their lead over Hustle.
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers kept their offensive pace in the final quarter and came close to breaking their record for most points scored in a game. A three-pointer would've tied the record. Seven players for the Vipers scored in double digit figures, and RGV shot at 52 percent from beyond the arc.
The Vipers will travel to the NBA G League Showcase next. They will face Westchester Knicks on January 10 and Erie BayHawks on January 12.
