
Vipers' Rohan Named Player of the Week

(San Ramon, CA) The North American League, one of the premier independent professional baseball leagues on the continent, announced today that Calgary Vipers second baseman Jimmy Rohan and San Angelo Colts right-handed pitcher Brian Henschel have been named the Rawlings Players of the Week for the week of July 17th.
Calgary Vipers second baseman Jimmy Rohan collected 13 hits in 28 at-bats last week, finishing with a .464 batting average. Rohan made his hits count, driving in 13 runs for the Vipers. He did not strike out all week. The 6'1" 215 pound infielder was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2002 as an 18 year old. Rohan, 27, reached AAA in 2005, appearing in 10 games for the Las Vegas 51's. In 2006 and 2007, he played for AA Jacksonville before being released. So far for the Vipers in 2011, Rohan is hitting .380 with 41 RBI. He has 17 walks and just 16 strike outs on the season.
San Angelo Colts right-hander Brian Henschel made two starts last week, pitching 7 innings in each. In his first start of the week, Henschel surrendered just 2 runs on 6 hits. The righty improved in his second start of the week, giving up just 1 run on 7 hits as he recorded 7 strikeouts. His final line for the week was 14.0 innings pitched, 3 earned runs, 13 hits, 3 walks, and 10 strikeouts. His ERA for the week was just 1.93. 2011 is Brian's fifth year playing professional baseball. The 34 year old has spent all five of his professional seasons with San Angelo after pitching for the University of Wisconsin. Henschel is the Colts' all-time wins (34), innings pitched (490.1) and strikeout leader (281). He also holds the single season record for ERA (2.19) and has the fifth best ERA all-time (4.39) for San Angelo. This season, the righty is 5-5 with a 4.88 ERA, and just 11 walks in 72 innings pitched.
