Vipers Hold Final Tryout
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Tennessee Valley Vipers will host their final open tryout on Saturday, March 11 in the South Hall of the Von Braun Center.
The tryout will begin at 10:00am and registration is $50.00. Players will be tested in the 40-yard dash, short shuttle, pro agility L-drill, broad jump, bench press and various position drills. Visit the Vipers website at www.vipers.tv to download the registration form.
The Vipers have also been assigned three players by the af2 league office. Johnpaul Jones, Percy Coleman and Rashad Gibbs will all be competing for spots when training camp opens in March.
Jones (OL/DL, 6-3, 310) played in 37 games at McNeese State from 2002-2004. He finished with 162 tackles, 18 tackles-for-loss for 98 yards, 58 quarterback pressures, 11 sacks for 73 yards, one pass break up and one forced fumble. He was named first-team All-Southland Conference in 2003 and 2004. He was a Division 1-AA All-South selection in 2004. The Lafayette, Louisiana native was heavily recruited out of high school and signed with LSU.
Coleman (WR/DB, 5-10, 195) played in three games for the Birmingham Steeldogs in 2003. He rushed for 10 yards on three carries, caught 15 passes for 157 yards and recorded 8.5 tackles, one pass break up and one forced fumble. He played college football at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
Gibbs (OL/DL, 6-6, 285) recorded 48 tackles and 4.5 sacks as senior in 2003 at Elizabeth City State University. He was named first team All-CIAA in 2003.
