Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release
DANBURY, CT - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), had the lead at three different times in their match Friday night in Danbury, but couldn't hang on as the Trashers scored twice in the third period to take the one-goal win by a final score of 4-3.
The Vipers jumped ahead early as Petr Jelinek scored at 2:26 of the first period off a pass from Josh Tataryn. Danbury would even the score less than a minute and a half later at the 3:54 mark. Vipers captain David Beauregard would give his team the lead again before the period's end, however, scoring at 10:26 of the first as Tataryn collected his second assist of the game.
Danbury would score first in the second period with a goal from Jamie Thompson at the 6:11 mark. Jan Jas would break the tie and give the Vipers their third and final lead of the game just over a minute later at 7:18 with a goal coming off a pass from rookie L.P. Martin.
The Vipers went into the third period with the one-goal lead, but couldn't stop Danbury from trashing that lead once again, as the home team got goals from Carlyle Lewis and Drew Omicioli at the 3:20 and 7:34 marks of the period. Vipers netminder Jamie Hodson was pulled in favor of sending an extra attacker to the ice with a minute and 39 seconds remaining in the game. Roanoke almost tied the game on different occasions during the final moments, but the Vipers couldn't quite get it done as the final buzzer sounded and the Trashers snagged the 4-3 win.
Roanoke's record drops back to the .500 mark at 7-7-3 (17 points), and Danbury improves to 9-7-2 (20 points), with the teams remaining as they were in the Eastern Division standings at second (Danbury) and third place (Roanoke).
