
Vipers Escape Nets at Winter Showcase

LAS VEGAS - In a rematch of the 2019 NBA G League Finals, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (5-13) defeated the Long Island Nets (4-11), 127-124, on Day Two of the 2019 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase.
The Vipers had five players score in double figures. Guard Angel Rodriguez tallied a team-high 26 points while Houston Rockets two-way player Chris Clemmons added 25 points and six steals in 31 minutes off the bench. On assignment from the Denver Nuggets, Jarred Vanderbilt posted a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
The Vipers connected on 15 three-pointers in the contest, allowing them to build a 22-point lead. The Nets would tie the game with just under three minutes to go in the fourth, but Rio Grande Valley would make timely defensive plays to take the lead for the remainder of the game. The Vipers improved to 5-13 with the victory.
Long Island was paced by Brooklyn Nets two-way player Henry Ellenson. The 6-10 forward accounted for a double-double with a game-high 33 points along with 12 rebounds. Guard Devin Cannady contributed 23 points and four assists in the valiant effort. The Nets fell to 4-11 with tonight's result.
Rio Grande Valley will finish its Winter Showcase schedule on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. PT. Long Island will return action tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. PT. Their opponents will be determined by the result of tonight's Northern Arizona Suns-Fort Wayne Mad Ants matchup.
