Alabama Vipers News Release
Huntsville, AL- The 2008 arenafootball2 Champion Tennessee Valley Vipers have announced that quarterback Kevin Eakin has been reassigned to the team for the 2009 af2 season. Eakin, a Fordham University product, completed 239 of 380 pass attempts for 2,515 yards and 51 touchdowns. Eakin's best single-game performance came against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, when Eakin passed for 229 yards and seven touchdowns. Eakin also led the team in rushing with his 185 rushing yards. "We are excited to have Kevin returning. He had an outstanding first year in the af2, and with Tony Colston also returning, we feel we have two top shelf arena quarterbacks," said Vipers Head Coach Dean Cokinos.
Eakin, during the 2008 Championship season, had two games in which he tossed seven touchdowns (Oklahoma City and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton) and seven more games in which he threw for at least four touchdowns. The 6-1 225 pound quarterback was also stellar during the Vipers post-season run to the ArenaCup Championship, tossing 11 touchdowns and passing for 704 yards in the Vipers four post-season games. Eakin got the start for the af2 title game, but was injured after throwing for the Vipers first score and did not return to the game.
Eakin's football resume also includes stops in the Canadian Football League, NFL Europe, and the NFL. He played with the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2005 and 2006, the Frankfurt Galaxy in 2005 and 2007, and also spent time in the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets training camps. "I'm excited about being back with the Vipers. We are going to work hard and try to bring another Championship back to Huntsville," said Eakin.
