
Vipers Defeat Capitanes in Late Game Thriller

EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (5-0) continue to be undefeated with a final score of 125-123 against Mexico City Capitanes (2-6).
The Vipers led the first frame of the match 33-31 but Capitanes came back in the second quarter to head into the half with a 66-59 lead over RGV. Three Vipers hit double figures at this point: Anthony Lamb 11 points, Trevelin Queen 12 points and Houston Rockets assignee Usman Garuba with a double-double 11 points and 12 rebounds. Capitanes' Gary Clark had a game-high at the half with 19 points.
By the third quarter of the game, all of the Vipers starters reached double-digits with Queen leading at 21. Garuba totaled 16 rebounds with four steals. Jabari Narcis totaled 10 points with six rebounds for Capitanes while Moises Andriassi came off the bench with 13 points to help Mexico City.
The fourth frame was head-to-head between both teams and while Mexico City outscored the Vipers 34-33, RGV came back to earn the last second win with a Garuba block with :01.7 left on the clock. The matchup was tied 123-123 at the :06.8 mark but Mfiondu Kabengele hit a two-point shot to earn the lead for RGV.
All five starters for the Vipers finished with double figures, led by Queen with 27 points, adding five rebounds, five assists. Garuba ended the night with an all-around of 18 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, five steals and two blocks. He shot 8-for-10 from the field and 2-2 from beyond the arc. Rockets two-way player Daishen Nix scored 23 points, seven assists; first time this season to score over 20+ points.
The Capitanes were led by Clark as he scored a game-high of 31 points, adding four rebounds and four steals. Matt Mooney contributed 22 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals from off the bench. Mexico City shot 54.4% from the field and 48.6% from the three-point line.
