
Vipers Continue To Load For 2008

The Tennessee Valley Vipers continue to make additions to their 2008 camp roster and for their run to bring an ArenaCup to Huntsville. Defensive back Maurice Banks (6'3" 210), offensive/defensive lineman Derek Mason (6'4" 270), and fullback/linebacker Brandon Johnson (6'2" 245) have all been assigned to the Vipers and will join the team for training camp beginning March 8th.
Banks, who played at Georgetown University from 2002-2005, totaled 109 tackles during his career as a defensive back and was named an All-Patriot League Second-Team choice as a senior. Banks, who was widely considered one of Georgetown's top all-around athletes, also played in Germany for the Marburg Mercenaries last season.
Mason, played collegiate football at Middle Tennessee State University from 2006-2007, after playing at East Mississippi Junior College for two seasons and was named to the MJCAA All-Star game in 2004 after totaling 21 pancake blocks and allowing two sacks. While at MTSU, Mason played on the defensive line and was named the Most Improved Strength Training for defensive lineman following spring drills. The Starkville, Mississippi native totaled 10 tackles and five tackles for loss in his two seasons with the Blue Raiders.
Johnson, who was a four-year starter at defensive end for Stillman College from 2003-2006, was eighth on the team with 23 tackles in 2005, and also totaled six tackles for loss along with four sacks. He also played his high school locally for Johnson High School from 2002-2003.
The Vipers begin their season March 29th at the Von Braun Center against the South Georgia Wildcats at 7:30pm. Also, be sure to check out the Vipers new website at www.vipersaf2.com.
