Vipers announce huge opening weekend extravaganza

ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), are proud to announce several special events which will be taking place during their Inaugural Season Opening Weekend this Friday and Saturday, October 21st and 22nd at the Roanoke Civic Center.

The Vipers will hold a "Party on the Plaza" prior to the games both nights, beginning at 5:30p.m. There will be inflatables, face painting, balloon animals, games, and prizes for kids, as well as live music and concessions. A selection of Vipers merchandise will also be available for sale. Friday night will be Vipers magnet schedule night, sponsored by 94.9 Star Country, who will also be joining the party live from the plaza. The first 2500 fans through the gate will receive an inaugural season magnet schedule.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte will be joining the Vipers on Friday evening to do the ceremonial puck drop to open up the team's first season in the Roanoke Valley. "I am proud to welcome the United Hockey League to the Roanoke Valley," said Goodlatte. "It is truly an honor to drop the first puck at the Roanoke Valley Vipers home opener, and I wish them the best of luck this season."

The Vipers are pleased to have hockey legend John Brophy as their honored guest on Saturday, October 22, as he drops the puck for the opening faceoff. Mr. Brophy has coached more seasons than any other coach in ECHL history, and has compiled a regular season record of 480-323-79, and a postseason record of 55-39.

"I'm very happy hockey is back in Roanoke, as it has such a rich tradition there," said Mr. Brophy. "I am really looking forward to watching the game on Saturday."
