Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), announced today the signings of forward Pat Doherty and defenseman Matt Kenny.

Doherty comes to the Vipers after spending four years at Southern New Hampshire University, which is part of the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Northeast Hockey League. The 6"1', 190-pound Doherty put up 47 points, including 26 goals and 21 assists in 28 games with the Penmen in 2004-05. The Wakefield, Massachusetts native also served as team captain for the Penmen his senior year. Over his four seasons skating for Southern New Hampshire University, he amassed a total of 102 points, which includes 56 goals and 46 assists.

"Because of the numbers Matt put up in the ECAC Northeast, we're hopeful that he'll be a diamond in the rough for us and come through as a dominant rookie on this Vipers team," said Vipers Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Rick Adduono.

Matt Kenny, who Adduono said "brings a little bit of everything" to the Vipers, played three seasons for the Lakehead University Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay, Ontario, beginning with the 2001-02 season. During his career at Lakehead University, he put up 68 points, including 21 goals and 47 assists. In 2005, the 220-pound D-man helped lead the Thunder Bay Bombers to win the Allan Cup, the Canadian Senior AAA Hockey Championship.
