Mississippi Braves News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - Thie Mississippi Braves saw their season-best seven-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday night to the Biscuits on a walk-off hit-by-pitch in the 10th inning. The loss also ended the club's longest road winning streak at five games, dating back to June 3o.
Darius Vines has been one of the best starters in minor league baseball the past month and added more gaudy numbers to his resume in the middle game of the three-game series. Vines didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning and tossed 6.0 innings of one-hit ball, striking out ten and walking just one. Over the Oxnard, CA native's last six starts, he has allowed just three runs in 35.2 innings pitched. The double-digit strikeout performance was his third this season and one shy of a career-high. He leads the league with 114 strikeouts this season.
The Biscuits' (40-42, 12-8) starting combination of Evan McKendry and Sean Huntley combined for 6.0 shutout innings as well.
Montgomery got on the board first with the second home run of the series by Jordan Qsar in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The lead didn't last long as Hendrik Clementina opened the top of the eighth inning with a 417-foot blast to left-center, tying the game at 1-1.
Neither team could break the tie in regulation, and for the fourth time this season, the Biscuits and M-Braves went to extras. Biscuits' reliever Jose Lopez (W, 4-3) loaded the bases with two outs after a pair of walks, but a strikeout of Vaughn Grissom ended the threat. Grissom finished 1-for-5 and extended his hitting streak to eight games as an M-Brave.
Jake Higginbotham (L, 2-3) started the 10th for Mississippi (44-45, 15-5) and walked Evan Edwards to put two on base. M-Braves' manager Bruce Crabbe went to dominant reliever Odalvi Javier with two on and nobody out. Javier induced a harmless pop-out for the first out, but Tyler Frank reached on an error to load the bases. Kameron Misner was hit by a 1-0 pitch scoring the winning run to give Montgomery the 2-1 victory, evening the series.
Despite the loss, the M-Braves maintain the best record in minor league baseball in July at 13-3 and lead the Biscuits by three games in the South division.
RHP Alan Rangel (4-3, 4.92) will make the start for Mississippi in the rubber match of the three-game set against Montgomery RHP Jayden Murray (7-2, 2.90) . The first pitch is at 3:33 pm CT, with coverage starting at 3:20 pm CT on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv.
The M-Braves return home to Trustmark Park August 2-7 against the Biloxi Shuckers. The homestand features Atlanta Braves World Series weekend with back-to-back giveaways on August 7-8. The first 1,000 fans on Friday, August 7, will get a Brian Snitker bobblehead presented by Coca-Cola. Then on Saturday, August 8, the first 1,000 fans will receive an Atlanta Braves World Series Champions Replica Ring, presented by the Mississippi Army National Guard.
