July 1, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
New Bedford Bay Sox News Release

The Ocean State Waves spoiled a strong start by Dartmouth local Frank Vilacha (New Haven) Monday night at Paul Walsh Field beating the Bay Sox 5 to 1.

Both starters matched each other throughout the game. Vilacha went 6 innings giving up 3 hits and no runs. Likewise, the Waves Jimmy Duff (Stonehill) went 6 allowing no runs on 5 hits.

Ocean Sate broke the game open in the 9th piling on 4 runs to get the 5-1 victory. The Waves took the lead when Trevor Lacosse (Bryant) threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded to make it 2-1. The inning got away from the Bay Sox with RBI singles from Caden Bailey (Georgia St.) and Mike Gerber (Creighton) to make it a 4-run Ocean State lead.

The first run of the game would not come until the bottom of the 7th when Ocean State's John Murray (Rollins) relieved Duff.

Christian Venditti led off the inning reaching second base on an error by Ocean State left fielder Shaun McGraw (Binghamton). Two batters later Andrew Dundon (Marshall) drove in Venditti with a double off the left field wall to give the Bay Sox a 1-0 lead.

Ocean Sate would answer back in the 8th with a run themselves. Lacosse relieved Colin Brown (Holy Cross) with runners on first and third, and a Mike Gerber groundout to second would tie the game at one apiece.

The Bay Sox fall to 5-12 on the year and take on Sanford tomorrow night at Paul Walsh Field.
