Vidal Drives in Four Including Game-Winning Runs for Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Left fielder Carlos Vidal tripled twice, including a bases-loaded knock down the left field line that cleared the bags, giving the Charleston RiverDogs the final lead in their 6-3 Monday victory over the Asheville Tourists in front of 3,391 fans.

Vidal attacked the first pitch from reliever Austin Moore, driving home Jason Lopez, Chris Hess, and Leonardo Molina. The Colombia native also brought home second baseman Welfrin Mateo with an RBI triple in the third inning. The 20-year-old's four RBI were a career-high, and he became the first RiverDog this season with multiple triples.

Charleston got another three-bagger in the fourth inning when designated hitter Steven Sensley hit a near-long ball off the top of the center field wall. Catcher Jason Lopez drove an 0-1 pitch from starter Garrett Schilling up the middle to score Sensley.

Manager Julio Mosquera sent righty Deivi Garcia to the hill for his RiverDogs debut. The 19-year-old struck out 10 hitters in five innings of work, tied for second most by a Charleston starter this season, and the fourth time a RiverDog starter has double digits punch outs. Holy City pitching combined for 15 strikeouts, one shy of a season-best.

Greg Weissert followed Garcia with a pair of scoreless innings, striking out three. Lefty Anderson Severino (2-1) allowed an eighth-inning run but earned his second win of the season.

Kyle Zurak recorded his sixth save with a perfect ninth frame. It was Zurak's second save in the last two days, giving him six in his last seven outings. He extended his scoreless innings streak to 10 straight.

Despite collecting a victory, Charleston was mathematically eliminated from the South Division first half title with a Rome victory against Greenville.

Ballpark Fun

Monday was another Dog Day down at The Joe in conjunction with 98Rock. Canine companions made their way to the ballpark with their human owners who enjoyed dollar beers and hot dogs, courtesy of Busch Light.

Game two of the series is a Live and Local Tuesday presented by 105.5 The Bridge. Local chef Will Lacey will host a popup restaurant in Murray's Mezzanine. There is a farmer's market on the concourse and "Good Morning Charleston" co-anchor Tessa Spencer will be the guest PA. First pitch is 7:05 as former Citadel lefty JP Sears (0-4, 2.45) with match up with righty Will Gaddis (2-4, 6.48). Tuesday's contest will be broadcast on 1250 WTMA in the tri-county area, with audio available atriverdogs.com and the RiverDogs TuneIn radio station.
