Victoria, BC - The Victoria Seals are proud to announce that they have signed Sean Smith (OF) for the upcoming 2010 Golden Baseball League season. He will join the Seals spring training camp immediately ahead of Friday's opening night at Royal Athletic Park.
"Sean is a talented outfielder who came highly recommended by my dad in Washington," said Seals Field Manager Bret Boone. "He was one of the last guys cut out of the Nationals spring training group, and I think he'll make a nice fit in our lineup."
The 6'0" native of Joliet, Illinois joins the Seals following a championship season with Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League. Smith was drafted by Pittsburgh in 2000, and went on to play five seasons in the Pirates system. Joining the Chicago White Sox in 2005, the speedy outfielder is coming off two of his best seasons including 236 hits and 80 stolen bases over the course of just 225 games.
The 2010 Victoria Seals season kicks off May 21 when the brand new Na Koa Ikaika Maui arrive at Royal Athletic Park.
