Edmonton Capitals News Release

Tucson, AZ - Edmonton Capitals Field Manager Brent Bowers declared his Opening Day Roster for the 2010 season presented by Canadian Tire. Opening Day in the Golden Baseball League is Wednesday May 19th and the Capitals will start the season on a 10 game road trip starting in Tucson against the Toros.

This year's roster has four players with Major League experience and just three returning players from the Capitals inaugural season including 2009 Most Valuable Pitcher and World Series winner Lou Pote. Outfielder Jorge Cortes and starting pitcher Chris Little are also back in the fold.

Bowers can't wait for the season to start and says if there are baseball fans out there that love the long ball, they're going to love this year's Edmonton Capitals.

"We're definitely a team with a lot of power. When you look at our lineup, any player from the lead-off spot all the way to the number eight spot in the batting order can knock it out of the park on any given pitch. I was just looking for good hitters and it just happened that they can all go deep at any time."

Fifteen of the 22 man roster are players that are above 6'2" tall and the average weight is 206 pounds.

Pote and Little will be a part of a five-man starting rotation. The stable of pitchers also includes former Major Leaguer Clinton Nageotte who spent time with the Seattle Mariners and Mike Hyrnio who has triple ‘A' experience also with the Mariners. Rounding out the pitchers include Julian Arballo (Brawley, CA), Chad Blackwell (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Broc Coffman (Rainier, OR), Alexander Francisco (Richmond Hill, NY), Canadian Scott Kelly from Belleville, ON and Ryan Paul (Moorpark, CA).

Catching duties will be split by Pete Farina (Los Angeles, CA) who spent time in the Chicago Cubs system and Josh Tarnow (Chandler, AZ).

The infield is anchored by former Texas Ranger and Colorado Rockie Cliff Brumbaugh along with another Canadian in Matt Rogelstad (Port Moody, BC), 6'5" firstbaseman Tom Collaro (Sunrise, FL), Alex Chavez (Culver City, CA), A.C. Grable (Covina, CA) and Eric McNamee (Lebannon, TN).

The outfielders also include former Baltimore Oriole Larry Bigbie (Valparaiso, IN), Tim Battle (Riverdale, GA) and Steve Brown (Barranquilla, Columbia). The Capitals 4 game series against the Toros in Tucson starts May 19th. You can follow pitch-by-pitch action at capsbaseball.ca. The first home game of the season is set for Tuesday June 1 when the Capitals host Maui Na Koa Ikaika - the Warriors.
