Victoria Seals News Release

Victoria, BC - Looking to avenge a loss to the Long Beach Armada on opening night, the Victoria Seals took to the field for game two at Royal Athletic Park on Saturday night. Sending. Turning to Eduardo Baeza (1-0) on the mound, the Seals faced the Armada's Keith Ramsey (0-1) for the first time.

After a scoreless, six-up, six-down first inning, the Seals opened the scoring for the second game in a row. A ground-out RBI from Bret LeVier scored Josh Arhart, while a wild pitch from Ramsey allowed Jamar Hill to cross home plate for the 2-0 Seals lead.

With Baeza cruising on the hill, Victoria extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth when Jamar Hill crushed his first long ball of the season, a two-run home run over the left field fence.

Long Beach responded in the top of the fifth, however, when a two-out single from Steve Young scored a pair to bring the Armada within two. The very next batter, Josh Womack, took an offering from Baeza over the fence in straightaway centerfield to knot the game at 4-4. Then, in the top of the fifth, Daryl Jones lifted Long Beach's second home run of the game to right field to give his time five unanswered runs and a 5-4 advantage.

Making his Victoria Seals' debut in the eighth inning, newly-signed Ethan Katz came in and struck out five of eight batters faced, but surrendered a solo home run to Jonny Kaplan to give the Armada a 6-4 lead.

Heading to the bottom of the ninth, the Seals got a single from Kyle Nichols, a walk from pinch-hitter Matt Kavanaugh, and a single from Chris Van Rossum to score one and put runners on second and third. A swinging strikeout from Pedro Montero left Victoria one-run short of a dramatic comeback, however, and handed Long Beach their third straight win, a 6-5 final score.

Despite carrying a no-hitter through three and two-thirds innings, Eduardo Baeza falls to 1-1 on the season with the loss, while starter Keith Ramsey picks up the win for the Fleet. Steve Young led the Long Beach offense, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's, while Josh Arhart was 3-for-4 at the dish for the Seals.
