Chico Outlaws News Release
After being suspended by fireworks on Friday night, this 17 inning marathon picked up in the 12th on Saturday night, and would get long in the tooth as well. Jesse Oster for the Outlaws and Dallas Mahan for the Vipers came out and pitched well, stranding runners when needed, and adding to the suspense.
Blake Cull would make his second professional appearance and pitch two scoreless inning to keep the game going, as it reached 90 minutes in it's restart and over five-hours total. It would all end though when Idaho native Jason Crosland connected for his second lead-off home-run in the ballgame that spanned two days.
On Friday, Crosland had lead off the 7th inning with a solo jack, his first of the season to close the gap to 6-4. So, coming to the plate in 17th, Crosland knew he could end it with one swing, and that's just what he did. Early in the count, Crosland hit a lazer-beam of a line-drive that just cleared the left-field wall. The game-winner set the gathering crowd afrenzy, and pushed the Outlaws winning streak to seven games.
Blake Cull, with those two inning of relief, notched his first win as a profesional. And not to be forgotten, Truan Mehl had connected on his first homer of the season, a three-run shot way back in the 2nd inning early Friday night, that got the Outlaws off the mat, making a 5-0 score 5-3.
-Vipers End Outlaws Streak
The Outlaws seven game win streak came to an end in the late-night reguarly scheduled ballgame, as they fall to the Vipers 5-2. The loss puts the two teams back into a tie atop the North Division standings with records of 7-2.
Jo Matumoto pitched well in his second start with the Outlaws, but would end up with a loss. Matumoto went seven innings, only surrendering three runs and striking out seven, but the offense didn't come through in late-innings.
The three-game set wraps up tomorrow evening with an early Sunday night start of 6:05 p.m. An important rubber-match, the two teams will battle for first place before both teams hit the road. The Outlaws after tomorrow's game are headed for St. George to play the RoadRunners, and are looking to improve on their 4-1 homestand.
