Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, an affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes and the San Antonio Rampage, have announced that veteran free agent defenseman Reagan Rome has agreed to terms on a contract for the 2007-08 ECHL season.
"Going into the off-season I felt I needed to address experience and leadership, and the addition of Reagan fills both needs on the backend," said RoadRunners Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Church. "Reagan is a strong leader and will be counted on heavily in all situations. He will make us a better team both on and off the ice."
Rome, 25, is a veteran of 320 professional games and has recorded 20 goals and 111 points during a five-year career split between the American Hockey League and the ECHL. The Nesbitt, Manitoba native collected 11 assists and 109 penalty minutes in 29 games with the Reading Royals and one goal and seven points in 27 games between Manitoba and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL in 2006-07. Rome ranks among Reading's all-time leaders in games played (176) and points (73) by a defenseman, and served as both a Captain and Alternate Captain with the Royals for each of the last two years. He was named the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Most Valuable Defenseman for the 2001-02 season.
"Having shuttled between the AHL and the ECHL over the last couple of seasons, Phoenix was an obvious choice because it gives me some stability at this point in my career," said Rome. "It's also a familiar situation with Brad as the head coach because I've played with Brad in the past when he was my captain in Reading (in 2003-04) and I know what kind of leader he is. I can see that he's putting together a good team and I'm looking forward to getting started in October."
The RoadRunners return to US Airways Center at 7:11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 when they host the Utah Grizzlies to commence their third season in the desert. Information on season tickets, half-season packages, and flex plans for the 2007-08 season of Phoenix RoadRunners Hockey are available by calling (602) 462-GOAL.
