Veteran Hergott Returns to Snakes; Call for Interns

Columbus Cottonmouths News Release

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League today announced the signing of forward Orrin Hergott. Hergott, who last season became the all-time leader in games played in the SPHL, will begin his ninth season and will be the only SPHL player on an active roster for each of the nine seasons of the SPHL's existence.

Hergott began his career with the Snakes in the 2004-05 inaugural season of the SPHL. His 57 points (24G, 33A) were good for fifth-best on the team and his plus-minus rating of +17 was second only to Lorne Misita. He chipped in two goals and two assists in the playoffs, helping the Cottonmouths to the inaugural President's Cup championship.

The next season, the injury bug bit Hergott as he only played 44 games in 2005-06. He also played in less than 50 games for the team three out of the next five seasons before last year, where he had a renaissance season. In arguably his best season on the ice since his rookie year, Hergott appeared in all 62 regular season and playoff games for Columbus and was third on the team with 43 points (19G, 24A), his highest point production since the 2006-07 season, and had a stretch where he picked up points in 19 out of 26 games. In the playoffs, Hergott chipped in with four goals and two assists, and his +9 rating in the postseason was second-best in the league to only teammate Greg Beller's +12 performance.

Hergott's 393 career games played in the SPHL lead all players in league history. His 294 career points are eighth all-time in the league, while his 141 career goals scored in the SPHL rank sixth among all players.

"Orrin had a great run for us last season," said Cottonmouths head coach and general manager Jerome Bechard. "He's the longest tenured player and had one of his best years last year helping us to our second championship. He is one of the most electrifying players in our league. I'm so excited to have him back. He seems to get better with age and exemplifies what being a Cottonmouth is all about by showing up every game and leaving everything on the ice every night."

In other news, the Cottonmouths are seeking qualified interns for both game day and production work during the season. Interested parties can send their resume via e-mail to Michael Keeney at michael@cottonmouths.com or fax it to Michael's attention to the Cottonmouths office at 706.571.0080.

The Snakes open the 2012-13 season at home on Friday, October 26 against the Pensacola Ice Flyers in a rematch of last season's President's Cup championship series. Season ticket plans are still available with great seats and affordable plans for those on a budget.
