Veteran Goalie Yann Danis Signed by Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that goalie Yann Danis has been signed to a one-year, two-way contract.

Danis is a 32-year-old (6/21/1981) from Lafontaine, Que. who has a long history of success in the American Hockey League mostly with Oklahoma City and Hamilton. With Oklahoma City in 2012, he won the Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL's outstanding goaltender and was named the first-team goaltender for the 2012 AHL Post-Season All-Star Team.

The 6-0, 185-lb free-agent goaltender has led the Oklahoma City Barons to the Western Conference Finals of the Calder Cup Playoffs in each of the last two seasons.

Last year with Oklahoma City, Danis finished fifth in the league in wins and in the top ten in the AHL in total minutes and total saves playing in 47 games and going 26-15-6 with a 2.59 goals-against average and .911 save percentage. Danis also played in three games in the NHL last season with Edmonton going 1-0-0, 3.82, .881. In the 2012-13 postseason with the Barons, he posted a 10-7 record with a 2.41 GAA and .923 save percentage in 17 Calder Cup playoff games.

Last year with the Oklahoma City Barons, he played in 47 games going 26-15-6 with a 2.59 GAA and .911 save percentage and then helped lead his team to the Western Conference Finals of the Calder Cup Playoffs. In 2011-12 when he won the award as the top goalie in the AHL, he was 26-14-2, 2.07 GAA, .924. He finished second in the league in goals-against average (behind Ben Scrivens of Toronto) and was eighth in saves percentage.

Danis has played in 53 career NHL games with Edmonton, New Jersey, New York Islanders and Montreal sporting a combined record of 17-21-4, 2.75, .910.

He has 276 games of AHL experience with 141 career wins going back to his professional debut in 2004 with the Hamilton Bulldogs. His American Hockey League career has taken him to the Hamilton Bulldogs (2004-08), Bridgeport Sound Tigers (2008-09) and Oklahoma City Barons (2011-13). In 2007, Danis won a Calder Cup with the Hamilton Bulldogs serving as the backup goaltender to Carey Price. The year before, he was named the co-MVP of the 2006 AHL All-Star Classic. He also has played one season in the KHL with Khabarovsk in 2010-11.

Danis made his NHL debut on October 12, 2005 for the Montreal Canadiens and earned a shutout against Atlanta in his first game in a 32-save performance becoming the first Montreal goaltender since 1973 to post a blanking in his debut.

Following his four-year career at Brown University from 2000-2004 which included a sparkling senior season with a .942 saves percentage and 1.81 goals-against average, Danis signed with the Montreal Canadiens and played with their AHL affiliate in Hamilton. In 2003-04 with Brown, he was named as a First Team All-American by several organizations and was named 2004 ECAC and Ivy League Player of the Year and was also named as a finalist for the Hobey Baker award. His 43 career wins and 13 career shutouts were Brown University records.
