Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder announced today that they have re-signed veteran center Travis Clayton, for the 2002-03 season.
Clayton, a 26-year-old native of Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan, had another solid season last year, finishing second on the Thunder in goals (24), assists (43) and points (67), despite missing seven games with an ankle injury. His stellar play earned him a trip to the 2002 CHL All-Star Game in Corpus Christi, TX, where he scored two goals for the Northern Conference in their 7-4 victory over the South.
"Travis will be an important part of the Thunder's success again this season", said Thunder head coach Jim Latos. "He is certainly one of the hardest working players in the CHL and we are very fortunate to be able to build the offense around him year after year."
Entering his sixth straight season with the Thunder, Clayton has amassed a franchise record 217 assists in 325 games. His 152 goals and 369 points rank him second only to Jason Duda. Clayton is also Wichita's all-time leader for both game-winning goals (19) and shorthanded goals (14).
Clayton joined the Thunder in 1997 as a rookie, picking up 58 points and helping the Thunder to the 1998 CHL Western Division Title. His best season came in 1999-2000, when he picked up career highs in both goals (42) and points (85).
This past season, he had a whopping 19 multiple-point games, including three-point perfomances in each of the season's final two games. Clayton is the third player signed for the upcoming season, joining defensemen Paul Johnson and Vladimir Hartinger.
Season ticket packages for 2002-03 are on sale now, starting at just $120. Full season ticketholders have until next week to pay in full and receive the early bird discount. For more information, contact the Thunder office at 264-GOAL or visit our website at www.wichitathunder.com.
