Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Vero Beach, FL) - The Vero Beach Dodgers put the tying runs on base in the bottom of the 9th but their bid for a third straight walkoff win came up short in a 3-1 defeat to the Ft. Myers Miracle Saturday night at Holman Stadium. Xavier Paul accounted for the only Dodgers run with his 13th home run of the season. The Dodgers have an off day Sunday before returning to action Monday at Palm Beach at 7:05 PM.

Paul's home run came in the third inning and was the only run until the 8th. David Winfree and Brock Peterson of Ft. Myers led off with back-to-back home runs against reliever Ryan Ketchner for a 2-1 lead. In the 9th, Brandon Roberts singled in Caleb Moore for the 3-1 final.

The loss spoiled a spectacular start from Adam Thomas. The right-hander dealt six shutout innings in which he struck out nine and did not walk a batter. That gives him 23 strikeouts in his last two starts (13 innings).

Ft. Myers' win snapped their season-high 4-game losing streak and also stopped the Dodgers' season-high 4-game winning streak. Still, Vero won the series. It is only the second series of the Second Half the Dodgers have taken.
