Vermont Mountaineers News Release
LACONIA, NH. - The Vermont Mountaineers stayed perfect against the Winnipesaukee Muskrats this year with a 9-5 victory on Saturday night in New England Collegiate Baseball League contest.
Vermont Mountaineers 25-6, snapped a two game losing streak. Vermont went down early 3-0.
The Muskrats started things off with a lead off solo shot by Brendan Concannon. More early offense for Winnipesaukee would earn them two more runs before the first inning was completed.
Things would stay 3-0 until the fourth inning when Vermont finally found some offense. Evan Fox would be the first Vermont runner to cross in the game. Fox singled, stole second base then was driven in by Tom Josten to make it a two run game.
Vermont would score two runs in the fifth tying the game at three and a solo shot from Adam Retzbach in the sixth inning that gave Vermont their first lead of the night.
Vermont's small lead would quickly be erased in the bottom of the sixth as Winnipesaukee tied the game again with a run of their own. Despite seeing their lead slip, Vermont exploded for four runs in the seventh, giving themselves a much more comfortable lead.
The Muskrats tried to rally in the seventh but could only plate one run. The Mountaineers scored one more run in the eighth to make the score 9-5 which would be the final in Laconia.
Vermont's Anthony DeFabbia settled down after giving up three runs in the first and shut down the offense for the Muskrats. DeFabbia went five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and a strikeout. Jackson Harrigan got the win for Vermont, going one and two thirds innings allowing two runs on two hits and recorded a strikeout.
