Vermont Mountaineers News Release
South Kingstown, RI - Not much went right for the Mountaineers on Tuesday night at Old Mountain Field in South Kingstown, RI, dropping their contest with Ocean State 7-1.
Ocean State would score three runs on five hits in the top of the second, giving them the early 3-0 lead. The big blow that inning was a solo shot off the bat of Ryan Ward (Millbury, MA/ Bryant), his third of the year. Four singles after that would give Ocean State their three run lead. Ward would also drive in another run in the fifth on a double, extending the lead to four.
Vermont would get their only run in the top half of the sixth. Bryce Kelley (Rockford, MI/ Michigan State) would walk to the lead off the inning, and would eventually score on a wild pitch, giving Vermont their only run of the game.
The Waves would add three more in the bottom of the eighth on five walks by the Vermont pitching staff. The loss for Vermont went to Andrew Kneussle (Plattsburgh, NY/ Canisius), throwing six innings, giving up four runs on ten hits while walking none and striking out five. The win for Ocean State went to Thad Harrris (Calhoun, GA/ Winthrop), throwing five innings, giving up no runs on three hits while walking one and striking out four.
