Vermont Extends Win Streak, Topping Valley 7-4

HOLYOKE, MA - The Mountaineers continued their win streak Monday night in Holyoke, taking down the Valley Blue Sox 7-4.

Vermont would score one in the top of the first, when Bryce Kelley (Rockford, MI/ Michigan State) scored on a single from Austin Masel (Stoneham, MA/ Holy Cross). Indigo Diaz (North Vancouver, BC/ Michigan State) would allow three walks in the bottom half of the inning, the third scoring a run. After one, the game was tied at one.

Vermont broke the game open in the top of the third. Brett Malm (Medford, NY/ Adelphi) would score on a passed ball after singling and moving to third on a Nate Grys (Sterling Heights, MI) double. Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/ Keystone) would double Grys in. Medina would come around to score on an RBI groundout from Nolan Tressler (Statesboro, GA/ Georgia Southern), giving Vermont the 4-1 lead.

Diaz would settle down after the first, going six innings, allowing only one run on one hit, while walking four and striking out seven, moving him to 3-0 on the season. Vermont added a run in the fourth and seventh, giving them the 6-1 lead after 7.

Valley would score two in the bottom of the eighth, closing the gap to 6-3. Vermont tacked on one in the top half of the ninth when Malm scored on Grys' second double of the game. Felix Garcia (Miami, FL/ Florida) came in for the bottom of the ninth, and would allow the tying run to step in the batters box. He was able to strike out the last two batters he faced, securing Vermont's 7-4 win.

Vermont (10-16) returns to Montpelier Tuesday to face off against the red hot Keene Swamp Bats (15-12), who have also won four in a row. Vermont now sits eight games back of first place Valley (17-7). First pitch for Tuesday is scheduled for 6:30, and can be heard on CBS Sports 1240, or online via the NECBL Broadcast Network.
