LOWELL, MA --- After an 8-5 victory for the Vermont Expos in the completion of a game suspended in the first inning Sunday, the Lowell Spinners came back in the seven-inning regularly-scheduled game to beat the Expos 4-1 in New York-Penn League action Monday night.

Vermont quickly took a 1-0 lead on a leadoff infield single from Jason Tuttle, who then stole second and scored on back-to-back groundouts to second base. But Tuttle's single, extending his hitting streak to 15, was the only hit of the game for the Expos.

After Tuttle's single, Lowell starter Wayne Lundgren retired the next 12 batters he faced in order. The Spinners were able to take a 2-1 lead in the third inning on two unearned runs off of Nick Long thanks to shortstop Ja'Mar Clanton. Leadoff hitter Ignacio Suarez reached on a throwing error by Clanton and scored on a triple to center by Melvin Reyes, who scored when Clanton's relay throw to third was wild.

Kevin Ool relieved Lundgren to start the fifth inning and retired the first two batters before allowing a two-out walk. He got out of the fifth with a strikeout of Danny Kahr, but with one out in the sixth he walked Tuttle and hit Brad Ditter.

Lefty Brian Marshall came in to face Vermont left-handed hitters Kory Casto and Josh Whitesell.

Casto was able to fly to deep right to move Tuttle to third, but Whitesell struckout to end the threat. After Jim Buckley gave the Spinners a 4-1 lead with a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, Zach Basch came on to get his fifth save with a perfect seventh inning.

Long (2-5) took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts over a complete-game six innings of work. Tuttle's 15-game hitting streak ties him with Scott Hodges for the second longest hitting streak in Expos history behind Geoff Blum's 18-game streak in 1994.

Vermont (9-38) returns home to Centennial Field to begin a seven-game homestand, longest of the season, with the Tri-City ValleyCats on Tuesday night beginning at 7:05 p.m. The Expos will host Tri-City and Oneonta for two games apiece, then end the homestand with three games against Jamestown Saturday-Monday.
