Vermont Cruises To Victory Against Keene

The Mountaineers pitching staff was able to shut down the hot Swamp Bats offense and were able to pick up plenty of runs for the 5-0 Vermont victory over Keene Friday night in Montpelier.

Vermont scored first in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Garrett Copeland, scoring Isaiah Pasteur and giving the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of innings five and six the Mountaineers would get to Swamp Bats reliever Brian Hobbie, as he allowed four runs on five hits and was taken out after just 1.2 innings pitched out of the bullpen.

The biggest hit for the Mountaineers was a single by Garrett Copeland that drove in two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Copeland would finish four for four with three RBI's, two stolen bases and a run scored.

Swamp Bats starter Tommy Doyle threw four strong innings, allowing only one run on five hits, but would depart with the score 1-0 in favor of Vermont.

Mountaineer pitching shutdown the Swamp Bats offense all night long. Keene was held to three hits in the entire game and was shutout on the scoreboard.

Four pitchers combined for the shutout. Garrison Banas started the game and lasted four innings and allowed only two hits while striking out seven Keene batters. Teddy Rodliff would come on in relief and pitch three innings allowing just one hit.

Sean Callahan and Sam Delaplane would combine for the final two innings of relief and hold on to the shutout for Vermont and they would secure the 5-0 victory over the Swamp Bats.

Keene would fall to a record of 12-29 with the loss. The Swamp Bats will play their final game of the season at home Saturday night against the Mystic Schooners, with first pitch at 6:30.
