Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release
Cole Bruce hit a walk-off home run in the first game and four Dodgers homered in the nightcap to give Vero Beach a sweep in Wednesday's doubleheader over the Daytona Cubs. Bruce's homer gave Vero a 3-2 win in the opener, while the Dodgers power display lifted Vero Beach to a 14-5 win in the second game. The Dodgers look for a sweep of the series on Thirsty Thursday 7:00 PM at Holman Stadium.
In Game One, the Dodgers trailed 2-0 after the first inning and it stayed that way until the bottom of the 7th. Cubs starter Juan Mateo handcuffed the Dodgers until Matt Kemp led off the inning with a double. Mateo was lifted for reliever Clay Rapada, who walked Anthony Raglani before surrendering the game-winning home run to Bruce.
The Dodgers left little doubt in the second game. Cory Dunlap stroked a 2-run homer in the first inning to give Vero an early advantage. It was in the second that they put the game out of reach. Raglani led off with a double and Travis Denker walked. Edwin Bellorin and Jimmy Rohan followed with back-to-back doubles, making it 5-0. One out later Chin-lung Hu singled in Rohan and Matt Kemp reached on a fielder's choice. Dunlap walked, Bruce singled and Raglani drilled a grand slam home run to make it 10-0.
Kemp added a 2-run homer the next inning for his league-leading 23rd. Denker led off the 4th with a solo shot, his second in Vero Beach and 23rd overall this year. Raglani doubled in Bruce after a walk in the 5th to cap the scoring. Raglani finished 3-4 with a homer, two doubles and 5 RBI.
