VB Dodgers Double Up Mets

The Vero Beach Dodgers used a 7-run 7th inning to end the regular season with a 12-6 win over the St. Lucie Mets. Xavier Paul hit a grand slam home run and drove in a total of five runs. Casey Hoorelbeke improved his record to 9-3 with the win in relief. The Dodgers finished with an overall record of 77-56, while going 37-30 in the second half of the season. The Dodgers have a day off Monday, but begin the playoffs in Palm Beach with a 6:35 PM start time at Roger Dean Stadium.

The Dodgers fell behind 5-0 before tying it in the fourth. Blake DeWitt led off with a double, while Matt Kemp and Cory Dunlap followed with singles. Two batters later, Paul lined his grand slam into the wind over the left field fence, tying the score.

The seventh inning proved to be the decisive frame as 11 hitters came to the plate and seven scoring. Paul had an RBI double, while A.J. Ellis, Travis Denker, DeWitt, and Jimmy Rohan also drove in runs.

Matt Kemp went 2-5 and scored tiwce, but fell one home run shy of the Florida State League lead. DeWitt's two hits give him 13 in 31 at bats since his callup from Columbus for a .419 batting average. Every Dodger in the starting lineup scored and all but two had at least one hit.
