Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, FL - The Cardinals rallied for a run in the ninth, but left the tying and winning runs on base as they were downed by the Jupiter Hammerheads 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Cardinals' starter Jose Garcia pitched well in his final start of the regular season by allowing just one run over five innings. Chris Russ (2-3) took the loss in relief by giving up two runs in two innings pitched in relief.
Adam Brandenburg, in only his second start of the season, gave up two runs - zero earned - in 5 2/3 innings. Zach McCormack (5-3) picked up the win for the Hammerheads in relief.
The Cardinals rallied in the ninth but fell just short. Rafael Galbizo walked Terry Evans and John Santor walked to start the inning. Brady Toops then singled to right field to score Evans and advance Santor to third. Jarrett Hoffpauir pinch-ran for Toops and stole second, putting the winning run in scoring position. Kurt Koehler replaced Galbizo and was able to strike out Tyler Greene, Mike McCoy, and Reid Gorecki to pick up his first save and end the game.
For the Hammerheads, the season ends on a high note after taking three of four from the rival Cardinals. Palm Beach will have Monday off, then will host game one of the playoffs on Tuesday night at 6:35 against the Vero Beach Dodgers.
Tickets are available at the Roger Dean Stadium ticket office for just $5. For more information, contact Roger Dean Stadium at (561) 775-1818.
