 New England Collegiate Baseball League

Vaughan and Tribucher Are NECBL Week 1 Award Winners

June 13, 2016 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) News Release

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - With five days and, for some teams, as many as four games in the books for the 2016 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) season, two players from the Northern Division stood out of a relatively small sample size, as North Adams infielder/outfielder Noah Vaughan (UT-Arlington) and Sanford left-handed pitcher William Tribucher (Michigan) have been named the first Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, of the summer.

Vaughan - who played the first two games at first base before moving to right field for the last two games of North Adams' 2-2 week - was arguably the league's top all-around offensive player over a four-game span, while Tribucher pitched a gem in his only start last week to help the Mainers to one of their two victories out of the three games they played to start the year.

Vaughan was on the diamond for all four North Adams games last week and was at or near the top in every major offensive category league-wide. He shared the league lead in runs scored (8) and home runs (2), was alone at the top of the leaderboard with eight hits in 16 at-bats for a league-best .500 batting average, ranked tied for fourth with four RBIs and posted a 1.467 OPS, as well.

A rising sophomore at UT-Arlington, Vaughan saw plenty of action during his rookie college campaign, playing in 52 games (40 starts) while batting .270 (38-141) with 19 runs scored, five doubles, two triples, two homers, 19 RBIs and six stolen bases. He also committed only one error in 145 fielding chances.

Tribucher's first start of the summer was a dominant one, as the Michigan southpaw fanned eight - the second-highest punch-out figure from any NECBL hurler last week - over six shutout innings against Danbury on June 11. He allowed just one hit and did not issue a walk over that span, finishing with the week with a 0.170 WHIP - the best mark in the league among starters.

That outing followed a freshman season that saw Tribucher contribute plenty as a rookie in Ann Arbor; the San Clemente, California, native made 23 appearances - 20 of them out of the bullpen - during which he fanned 37 over 39 innings.

The NECBL congratulates both on their recognition.
