Vancouver Giants Acquire Darren Bestland from Brandon

The Vancouver Giants acquired 20 year old defenceman Darren Bestland from the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for 20 year old centre Matt MacKay. Bestland, a native of Brunkild, Manitoba, is in his 3rd season in the WHL and was a member of the Wheat Kings team that lost in the 2010 Memorial Cup Championship Final. In 40 games this season, he has 4 goals, 12 assists, 16 points, and 69 penalty minutes.

"Traditionally January and February are the most competitive months of the season and Darren's experience could be vital as we push to the make the playoffs, " said Executive Vice-President and General Manager Scott Bonner. "His experience playing in playoff games and more importantly the Memorial Cup tournament is invaluable."

Bestland will join the team in Prince George Friday and will be available for the two division games vs. the Cougars.
