Vancouver FC's Mikaël Cantave Answers International Call for Haiti

November 6, 2024 - Canadian Premier League (CPL)
Vancouver FC News Release

Langley, BC - Vancouver FC forward Mikaël Cantave has earned his fourth call up for the Haitian Men's National team this year for the final installment of the nation's Group Stage matches in the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League (CNL), the club confirmed on Wednesday.

Cantave, 28, has been a part of the Haitian team for the entirety of the county's 2024/25 CNL Group Stage campaign which began in September. Haiti is currently sitting at the top of Group C being undefeated in the first four matches of the tournament, competing against Puerto Rico, Sint Maarten, and Aruba.

Cantave has made one start in three appearances for Haiti since September and scored two goals in the nation's 6-0 victory over Sint Maarten on Sept. 9, 2024. The native of Ottawa, Ont., will now join Les Grenadières in Puerto Rico for the final two Group Stage matches against Sint Maarten on Friday, Nov. 15 and Puerto Rico on Monday, Nov. 18. Both matches will be hosted at Estadio Centroamericano in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.

Haiti is competing in League B of the 2024/25 CNL and will need to remain the Group C leaders in order to be promoted to League A for next year's edition of the tournament. The 2024/25 CNL also serves as the qualifiers for the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup with the group winners advancing immediately into the tournament and the group runners-up qualifying for the Gold Cup Prelims.

Prior to his call up for the CNL, Cantave represented Haiti for the first time this year in the country's Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers in June, where he made two appearances and registered one assist. Cantave has registered 17 caps for Haiti, the country of his father's birth, since making his international debut in 2018 ahead of the attacker's Concacaf debut in the CNL that same year. He has since scored four goals and registered two assists in international competition.

Cantave joined Vancouver as a mid-season transfer in June 2023 and has made 29 starts in 42 appearances across all competitions for the Eagles. The 28-year-old attacker has registered five goals and five assists in his VFC career, including one goal and three assists this season, setting a new Canadian Premier League (CPL) career high for single-season assists.
