NILES, OH-The Tri-City ValleyCats beat the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 8-5 despite accumulating just three hits. The ValleyCats took advantage of eight walks, three errors, and three wild pitches given up by the Scrappers.

One of the three hits came off the bat of Mario Garza. He clubbed a bases clearing double in the first inning. Drew Sutton was on third base after he led off with a single. Garza later scored on a groundout by Brady Koch. The ValleyCats scored four runs on two hits in the inning. Their only other hit came in the eighth inning when Luke Barganier singled.

Evan Englebrook struggled on the mound for Tri-City and just as quickly as the ValleyCats had a 4-0 lead they found themselves tied at 4-4. Evan gave up three runs in the second inning thanks to two errors by Tri-City. The score was 4-3 then Chris Gimenez smacked a solo home run off of the right-hander in the third inning to tie the game.

The ValleyCats quickly bounced back in the fifth inning and scored two runs. Jonny Ash and Ben Zobrist walked. They both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch by Scrappers hurlers Matt Haynes. Then Ash scored on a groundout by Garza. It was Garza's fourth RBI of the day and the 'Cats had a 5-4 lead. Zobrist later scored on a wild pitch, the second of the inning to make it 6-4.

Tri-City later scored two more runs in the ninth inning when James Cooper was hit by a pitch and Drew Sutton reached on an error. Edgar Babilonia's sacrifice pushed both runners into scoring position. They would both come home to score on a wild pitch.

Casey Brown worked three scoreless innings and got the win in relief. The ValleyCats now open up a three game series in Fishkill, NY tomorrow with the Hudson Valley Renegades. Game time is set for 7:11 and the game can be heard in the Albany area on 1160 WABY and 900 WUAM.
