Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
EDINBURG, Texas---- The Edinburg Roadrunners of the United League Baseball (ULB) announce today the signing of infielder/outfielder Eric Gonzalez for the 2009 season. Gonzalez, a native of the Rio Grande Valley out of La Feria, Texas, was an original member of the Edinburg Roadrunners team from 2002- 2006. He also held a spot on the Edinburg Coyotes squad during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. "It is always a positive thing when you a get a local guy on the team, especially one who has been here since the start, shows that we are doing something right," stated Edinburg Roadrunners field manager Vince Moore. "Eric has been there since day one, which is something you can't say about a lot of players. I will look to him to bring leadership through all the experience he has had."
Gonzalez finished last season with a .263 batting average posting six home runs and 57 RBI's. He is an infielder by trade but has also seen action in the outfield. "After last season I was going to retire but really wanted to play one more year," said Gonzalez. "I got a few calls, but wanted to play here at home and then I heard that the Roadrunners were coming back and that Vince took the position of field manager. I made my start as a Roadrunner and with Vince and he has always brought in good players. I hope to bring my leadership to the field while putting up the numbers to bring the championship back home this year."
The Edinburg Roadrunners season starts Thursday June 11th with a four game home-stand against the Laredo Broncos. Call (956) 380-4446 to reserve your tickets now.
