Valkyries Notch Second Win 3-1 Over Fury

The Orlando Valkyries took the final three sets to claim a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Fury. The Valkyries (2-2) overcame a slow start to win its second game of the season. Orlando was led by Kaz Brown with 17 total points and seven blocks. Full statistics for the game can be found here.

Set 1

Fury won the first set 27-25 after scoring the match's first two points and jumping out to an 8-3 lead. But the Valkyries would regroup and make a comeback. With the Fury leading 24-19, Orlando went go on a run to tie the set at 24-24 on a block by Brown. Despite the Valkyries' strong surge, Fury would take the set.

Set 2

The Valkyries took the second set 25-22 on an ace by Wilma Rivera. Orlando got its first lead at 14-13 on a kill by Adora Anae. Despite a four-point run by the Fury at 22-18, Valkyries finished the set strong. Jill Gillen led the team in kills with four in the set.

Set 3

The Valkyries won the third set 25-20 after a 4-1 run. The teams traded points until the Valkyries built a three-point lead at 21-18 and finished the set strong. Anae led the team in kills in the set with five.

Set 4

Orlando jumped out to an 8-1 lead and never looked back, claiming the fourth set 25-11. The Valkyries dominated and built a 15-point lead at 24-9. Melissa Evans scored the match-winning point with a kill.

The Valkyries are back in action on Sunday, February 18, against the Omaha Supernovas at 6 p.m. at Omaha's CHI Health Center.
