Valkyries Falter in Four Sets against Supernovas

The Omaha Supernovas (5-3) outlasted the Orlando Valkyries (3-4) in a 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Addition Financial Arena.

Outside hitter Jill Gillen led the Valkyries with 22 total points (18 kills and four blocks) in the contest. Full statistics for the game can be found here.

Set 1

The Supernovas took the first set 30-28. It was tightly contested throughout with neither team wavering. Orlando led by as much as four and Omaha three. Valkyries' Gillen led all with eight kills in the set.

Set 2

The Valkyries decisively took the second set 25-17. Orlando maintained control throughout, leading by as much as eight. Valkyries opposite hitter Azhani Tealer led all with six kills and had two blocks in the set.

Set 3

Omaha finished strong and took the third set 25-23. With the score tied at 15-15, the Supernovas scored four straight points to build a 19-15 lead. The Valkyries stopped the run, but Omaha scored two straight. With the score at 21-16, the Valkyries went on a 6-1 run to tie the set at 22-22. However, Omaha closed out the set with a 3-1 run. Valkyries outside hitter Adora Anae and Gillen both had five kills in the set.

Set 4

The Supernovas won the fourth set 25-18. With the Valkyries leading 8-7, Omaha went on a 5-0 run and it proved to be the difference in the set. The Supernovas outside hitter Bethania De La Cruz led both teams in the set with five kills.

The Valkyries are back in action on Friday, March 1, against the Grand Rapids Rise at 7 p.m. at Addition Financial Arena.
