Valicevic nets two in Generals 5-1 victory over Elmira

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League caught fire early and played solid defense the rest of the way in a 5-1 drubbing of the Elmira Jackals in front of 3,374 at Perani's Arena on Friday night.

Flint jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead and never looked back. Right wing, Rob Valicevic (30) scored at 4:08 and defenseman Jason Woolley (3) at 4:38 made it a quick start for the Generals. Left wing, Kris Waltze (8) at 13:51 and Valicevic (31) at 13:51 with his second goal of the game gave Flint the breathing room the rest of the way.

Elmira cut in to the Generals lead in the second period as right wing, Jarrett Konkle (3) scored at 7:35 for a 4-1 score. Flint would regain the four goal cushion on a goal by center John DiPace (15) on a breakaway at 12:46 to wrap up the scoring. It was a scoreless third period.

Flint goaltender, Dan McIntyre (15-15-7) earned the victory stopping 18 of 19 shots. The Generals (28-26-11, 67 pts.) are in third place in the Central Division and are eighth overall in the league with a current hold on the final playoff spot. Elmira (21-38-5, 47 pts.) is in fourth place in the Eastern Division and last overall in the league standings.

The Generals return home tomorrow night, Saturday, March 12, 2005 to host the Richmond Riverdogs at 7:35 p.m. at Perani's Arena. Tickets are on sale at any TicketMaster location.
