Countdown to Face-Off

After nearly a week off, the Kalamazoo Wings and the Port Huron Beacons will lace their skates back up for a Central Division clash. The K-Wings have a perfect 5-0-0 record against the Beacons this season, with three of those victories occurring at Wings Stadium.

The K-Wings enter the game seven points out of first place in their division. Besides chasing the Muskegon Fury for the top spot in the division, the K-Wings are also jockeying for position for the UHL playoffs. Currently, the K-Wings are tied with the Danbury Trashers for fifth place overall in the league. Kalamazoo is just two points away from Rockford for fourth place.

Port Huron comes into tonight's game looking to make some waves in the upcoming playoffs. The Beacons, who have 60 points on the season, are just six points behind the Quad City Mallards for the final playoff spot in the league. Tonight, is also game two of a four game road trip for Port Huron. The Beacons, who are 10-20-3 on the road, started the road swing with 3-1 lost in Fort Wayne.

Bouncing Back

So far this season, the K-Wings have rebounded well after suffering a loss. Entering tonight, the K-Wings are 17-5-3 when they enter a game after suffering a loss or a shootout loss. In their last game on Saturday, the K-Wings lost 5-2 to the Quad City Mallards.

Goaltender Joel Martin has recorded fourth straight victories between the pipes for the K-Wings. Martin, who has a record of 11-7-0, is second in the UHL with a save percentage of .930.

Dominate in the Second

The K-Wings have played their best hockey this season during the second period of their games. So far this year, the K-Wings have outscored their opponents 63-47 (+16) in the second period.

Winning the Close Ones

Kalamazoo has had the ability to win the close games. This season, the K-Wings are 13-6-5 in games decided by one goal.
