Valerio Lifts Marauders to 4-2 Win over Mets

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders defeated the St. Lucie Mets 4-2 on Friday at First Data Field.

The Marauders opened up the scoring in the fourth inning with a solo home run from Cal Mitchell. In the fifth inning Adrian Valerio slugged a two-run double to make it 3-0. He later scored on a sac fly to put the Marauders up 4-0.

The Mets fought back in the sixth and seventh innings. Travis d'Arnaud hit a RBI single in the sixth to plate Desmond Lindsay.

The Mets had a chance to do damage in the seventh but could not break through. They loaded the bases with no outs. Quinn Brodey lofted a sac fly to plate a run to cut the deficit to 4-2. Bradenton reliever Ryan Valdes then retired two batters to end the threat.

Bradenton starter Aaron Shortridge (1-0) blanked the Mets over five innings to get the win. Drew Fischer recorded a three-out save.

Mets starter Tommy Wilson (0-1) started strong before fading in the fifth. He allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings of work.

The Mets bullpen pitched four scoreless innings for the second consecutive night.

D'Arnaud and Todd Frazier continued their rehab assignments. D'Arnaud went 1 for 4 and caught eight innings. Frazier went 0 for 3. He played four innings at third base and three innings at first base.

Jeremy Vasquez went 1 for 3 with a double, walk and a run.

Mitchell went 3 for 4.

The Mets (0-2) and Marauders (2-0) shift their series to LECOM Park in Bradenton on Saturday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
