FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to slip past the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 4-3, on Friday night at Hammond Stadium.

Tied at three, Royce Lewis led off the eighth with a triple to center. Later in the inning, with one out and the bases loaded, Lewis raced home on passed ball to put the Miracle in front.

The Miracle opened the scoring in the third in bizarre fashion. With one out and the bases empty, Akil Baddoo walked and stole second. Pitcher Tommy Romero attempted to pick Baddoo off but threw the ball into center field where it was booted by Carl Chester, allowing Baddoo to score. The Stone Crabs were charged with two errors on the play.

Charlotte tied the game in the top of the fifth on a Carl Chester home run. In the bottom of the inning, Trevor Larnach gave the Miracle a 3-1 lead with a two-run double.

The game stayed 3-1 until the eighth when Charlotte struck for two runs to even the game at three.

Duran tossed four no-hit innings before giving way to the Miracle bullpen. Duran, who was acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of the Eduardo Escobar trade, allowed just one base runner, a two-out walk in the third.

Tom Hackimer (1-0) notched his first win of the season with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief. The New York native collected back-to-back strikeouts with the tying and go ahead runs on base in the ninth inning.

Romero started for Charlotte and allowed two runs (one earned) in 4.1 innings. The right-hander took a no decision. Simon Rosenblum-Larson (0-1) suffered the loss after yielding one unearned run in an inning of work.

The season opening series with the Stone Crabs shifts to Port Charlotte on Saturday night. Tyler Watson makes his season debut for the Miracle.
